Estimate what a wholesale toy order really costs at your door — FOB price, ocean freight, import duty bands, insurance and fees — then see landed cost per unit and a retail price reference.
Ex-factory price per piece, before freight.
Simplified input: 1 CBM ≈ a 1m × 1m × 1m carton stack. Ask your supplier for packed dimensions, or use carton count × carton CBM.
Rate assumptions
Ocean freight ≈ $120/CBM · Origin & destination local charges $220/shipment · Insurance ≈ 0.35% of goods + freight · Misc fees $150/shipment.
Estimates only, not a quote. Figures are illustrative planning bands, not carrier or customs rates.
Duty band for United States: 0% – 8% (illustrative, from publicly available tariff overviews — actual duty depends on HS classification and origin).
Landed cost / unit
$3.60 – $3.88
Retail price reference
$9.01 – $13.57
2.5×–3.5× landed cost — a planning reference, not a pricing rule
Estimates only, not a quote. Excludes import VAT/GST (commonly charged on top of duty in many markets and often recoverable for registered businesses), storage or demurrage, and any anti-dumping or product-specific duties.

Landed cost is the total you pay to get a product into your warehouse, ready to sell. It starts with the FOB unit price from the factory, then adds ocean freight, cargo insurance, import duty, and the local charges that appear on every shipment: customs entry, documentation, terminal handling and banking fees. For toy buyers the difference is rarely small — a product at $2.50 FOB can easily land at $3.10–$3.40 once everything is counted, and bulky categories cost more per unit because freight is billed on volume (CBM), not on piece count.
Duty is the most misunderstood piece. It is charged on the customs value — commonly the CIF total of goods, freight and insurance — at a rate set by your product's HS classification in the destination market. Toy categories are not uniform: an electronic learning toy and a plush animal can fall under different headings, and trade agreements between the exporting and importing country change the outcome again. That is why this calculator shows an illustrative range rather than a single percentage. Use it to stress-test your margins, then confirm the exact rate with a customs broker before you lock in retail pricing.
Freight, duty and fees can add 10–30% to unit cost. Always sell against landed cost, not factory price.
Toy categories differ widely by HS classification. Use a band, then confirm with a customs broker before you commit retail pricing.
Freight is driven by CBM, not unit count. Bulky items like plush or ride-ons can double shipping cost per unit.
Most markets charge import VAT or GST on top of duty. It is often recoverable if you are registered — but you must factor it into cash flow.
The practical fix is simple: decide your retail price backward from landed cost, not from the factory quote. Build in a buffer for freight swings, keep quantity and CBM realistic for a first order, and treat import VAT/GST as working capital rather than pure cost if your business can recover it. When the numbers are tight, small moves — consolidating shipments, adjusting carton dimensions, or shifting order timing — often matter more than squeezing another few cents off the unit price.
The ex-factory price you agree with the supplier, multiplied by quantity.
Port-to-port sea freight plus origin and destination local charges.
Cargo cover on goods and freight — usually a fraction of a percent.
Charged on the customs value, often the CIF total, at the rate for your HS code.
Customs entry, documentation, banking and terminal handling.
Import VAT/GST (often recoverable), storage, inland delivery, marketplace fees.
