Wholesale terms
The short answer: wholesale toy pricing is quoted as FOB reference bands — roughly $0.50–$25 per unit depending on category — while MOQ, carton specs and lead times are set per SKU and order type and confirmed in writing before production. Expect flexible, tier-based minimums rather than one public number, and a lead-time window of roughly two to three months for stock goods moving by sea.
Haopin Toys is the website of Haopin Global — a China-based toy supply chain integrator. Our work is selection, quality control and logistics for international buyers: we find and vet factories, negotiate terms, manage samples and production, and coordinate shipping to your market. Shanghai headquarters, buyers worldwide, operating since 2017. Everything below is written for buyers comparing suppliers and building a margin model before the first email.
Reference figures on this page come from our 2026 toy wholesale price guide. Estimates only, not quotes — always confirm with a quote for your specification.
01 · Pricing
Reference bands for China factory-direct sourcing (FOB), by category. Use them to position a product economically before you request quotes — not as a price list. Actual pricing moves with spec, packaging complexity, customization and volume.
| Category | Typical FOB unit band | Positioning |
|---|---|---|
| Squishy / slow-rise | $0.50 – $3.00 | Volume-friendly, freight-sensitive |
| Plush / stuffed animals | $1.50 – $8.00 | Volume-friendly, freight-sensitive |
| Building blocks sets | $2.00 – $12.00 | Higher complexity, many parts |
| Educational & STEM | $2.00 – $15.00 | Higher complexity, many parts |
| RC toys | $4.00 – $25.00 | Higher complexity, electronics |
| Blind box / capsule | $0.80 – $5.00 | Volume-friendly, freight-sensitive |
| Dolls | $2.00 – $12.00 | Higher complexity, many parts |
| Board games / puzzles | $1.50 – $10.00 | Higher complexity, many parts |
Reference bands — market ranges for planning, not quotes. Printed packaging, branded inserts and special finishes add cost; plain bagged goods save it. Note that low unit price does not always mean cheap to import: bulky categories carry more freight per unit (see landed cost calculator).
02 · Order size
We do not publish a fixed MOQ — because there isn't one that fits every product. Minimum quantity depends on the category, whether a style is stock or custom, and how the order is packed and consolidated. What we do commit to is flexibility: we discuss the right entry point for your situation and confirm the agreed quantity per SKU in the quote before production starts.
A first run sized to test the market. We ask factories for a reduced first order so you can validate sell-through and quality before committing to a program.
What makes it work
Stock styles, mixed-SKU cartons, consolidated shipment
Your planned reorder volume per SKU. Pricing moves toward the middle of the reference band, and packaging and labelling become part of the regular run.
What makes it work
Repeat SKUs, regular packaging, scheduled production slots
Container-level or multi-SKU seasonal programs. This is where volume breakpoints, dedicated line time and consolidated loading all work in your favour.
What makes it work
Container loading, multi-SKU mix, seasonal programs
Off-shelf items carry far lower entry quantities than custom molds or branded packaging. For a first order, testing with stock styles is usually the efficient route — move to custom once the sell-through is proven.
Several SKUs at a smaller per-SKU quantity, shipped as one consolidated load. It keeps the first order diverse while the shipment economics stay sensible — and it is the most common way buyers start.
03 · Packing
Freight is billed on volume as much as on weight, so the carton spec is not paperwork — it is a cost input. Ask for the six fields below on every quotation, and use them to model freight per unit before you agree a price. As a planning reference, a 20GP holds roughly 25–28 CBM of usable cargo and a 40HQ roughly 60–68 CBM, depending on how the load is built.
In centimetres. Drives CBM, freight class and how tightly a container can be stacked.
Inner pack and outer carton counts — the basis for every per-unit calculation you will do.
Gross includes packaging. Couriers and air freight bill on whichever is higher — weight or volume.
CBM = L × W × H in metres. Ocean freight is driven by cubic volume, so this number matters more than unit count.
Ask for pieces per 20GP and 40HQ with the carton spec — it is the fastest way to sanity-check freight per unit.
Carton markings, retail barcodes, palletised or floor-loaded. Cheap to plan, expensive to fix after production.
The formula: CBM per carton = length × width × height (in metres). Multiply by cartons ordered for total cargo volume, then compare that against container capacity and your freight quote. A container of boxed block sets and one of bagged squishy toys have very different cube-to-value ratios — which is exactly why landed cost, not unit price, decides your margin.
04 · Timing
Reference cycles for planning a season. Add the stages below for a total window — stock goods on sea freight typically span roughly 8–13 weeks end to end, and custom mold programs roughly 10–17 weeks, before destination clearance and inland delivery.
| Stage | Typical duration | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Quoting + sampling | 1–3 weeks | Spec confirmation, counter-samples, approvals |
| Production — stock / minor custom | 15–30 days | Off-shelf items, colour or packaging changes |
| Production — custom molds | 35–60 days | Own tooling, branded packaging, new specs |
| Sea freight (Asia → US / EU) | 25–40 days | Port to port; add destination clearance and last mile |
For Q4 and Christmas retail, goods should be at sea by September–October on US/EU lanes. Custom-mold orders need to start in summer. A late sea plan still costs less than a rushed air shipment.
Lunar New Year (late January–February) slows production across the country — plan around it when you schedule both first orders and reorders.
05 · Volume
Unit price steps down as quantity crosses breakpoints — but the breakpoints are set per SKU and per factory, from the cost drivers below, not from a universal price list. When you request a quote for more than one quantity, we map the breakpoints for your SKUs so you can see where the next step sits before you commit.
| Order tier | Position in the band | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Trial order | Upper part of the reference band | Validate quality and sell-through |
| Standard order | Middle of the band | Reorder proven SKUs at planned volume |
| Full container / program | Lower part of the band, breakpoints confirmed per SKU | Seasonal programs, multi-SKU consolidation |
Foam, plastic and fabric are bought in lots. When your quantity crosses a lot size, input cost drops and the saving is passed into the quote.
Printed cartons, blister and inserts carry setup cost. Longer runs spread that cost thinner per unit.
Custom molds are amortized across the units produced. The more units that share the tooling, the lower the per-unit share.
Longer production runs mean fewer changeovers per unit — one reason a program order prices better than repeated small runs.
Mixing SKUs into one container lowers freight and handling per unit, which improves effective cost even when unit price is unchanged.
Practical note: over-customizing a first order is the most common way buyers overspend. Test with stock styles, consolidate SKUs into shipments, and move to custom packaging once the volume justifies the setup cost.
06 · Process
From first brief to reorders, one team coordinates sourcing, quality control and logistics. Payment terms are confirmed with the quote — for new supplier relationships the common structure is a deposit to start production with the balance against shipping documents.
